Let’s just talk about episode 13 because we all know what happened from Haruka’s contradiction to how exactly he found resolution, thanks to Rin of course. So we have everybody is happy kind of ending. No plot twist, pure happiness, touching speech, everyone is just happy. Not that I’m being sarcastic, it’s just I’ve had enough plot twists this season. What I really wait for this series to come up finally got wrapped when Haruka started to ask what he really wanted. Everyone has to go through this phase, and lucky Rin he had decided. And I have to mention the English in episode 11 is very good indeed, so much better than common Engrish I had heard in other animes.
Like seriously, I was really looking forward when they finally reached to Haruka’s problem. Just love it. The accuracy of that feels when people’s expectations weigh you down, and all you really care about are the pure excitement and pride of what you’re doing. But there are these people that put so much invisible pressures, and goals for you to reach, and then it goes the conflict between your true passion and what society calls success collide. Here, Haruka still tried his best to be true to himself, and he was right; you can’t find a dream by just looking at it, because there’s more than that. That’s it, until Rin with his obsession over dreams show all these amazing things to Haruka. Yes, you can’t find a dream by just looking at it, more specifically you need this feeling of ‘wow this is what I fucking want’ in it.
KyoAni really did this same thing of “visions” with Iwatobi final race in National. But it didn’t work for me. Straight to the end, Nitori is chosen as the new captain by Rin *surprise, who didn’t see that*. Makoto and Haruka are ready to Tokyo. It was enough hint when Makoto decided to help couch Sasabe with being an extra teacher.
Rei, Nagisa and Gou-chan are pretty busy with their swimming club activity and school. Rin is trying hard in Australia. Sousuke? who cares. The best part is when we finally see these 2 buddies finally enter the international stage together. It’s a good think they didn’t really focus on this relay and friendship thing because that was cool in season 1 but now it’s different. The way Haruka started to care about his time and wins-losses for the sake of his dream is one to note, for the future, exactly.
I always love how Rin had grown up to be a great man and friend to Haruka, because I don’t think just Makoto’s understanding toward Haruka is enough. Haruka needs Rin and vice versa, just like in real life you need someone, you can say rival or whatever that keeps you on track to reach that dream. Free! is just a simple example why we need some competitions so stay revelant or stronger, and Rin has this validity in Haruka. This eternal summer is just a prelude of the future. Overall, it might not be as great as season 1, but it’s good. I just get this good feeling knowing they do well in the future.

Anyway, Sousuke, wtf with this guy? I thought he held a grudge against Haruka, and the next episode it turned out he was just depressed. Yeah, whatever. Momo keeps being adorable by the way. The last episode is good. Iwatobi boys are doing well, finish 6th in National, so what’s really the focus is how they really grow up. Like oh Rei I understand this is the last time you will swim with them but you don’t need to be such a cry baby.
